My Yellow Ribbon

I support our troops and hope for their safe return. I made this graphic in Photoshop. Feel free to borrow it to use on your site. Just right click on it to save the image.

I’m testing a way to wrap text as seen at Mandarin Design. I’ve had lots of trouble getting this to work for some reason. I’m hoping that this will finally do the trick. I used a black background because I made it for Ephemeron. If you like the ribbon, but would like a different background color to match your site, just contact me and I’ll be happy to do a custom graphic for you. I can change the size, too. :)

Okay, here’s my problem, once again. When I preview the entry, it looks perfect and the image shows up. When I Draft it, it’s a different story. The image does not appear to be there. If you right click where the graphic should be, it gives you the option to save it… so it must be there, right? I just don’t get it. :(

Billy

Posted by Heather On March - 29 - 2003

Billy is originally from Houston, Texas. He’s been in “every state in the Union” and now panhandles in Monterey. My dad gave him some money and I sat down and chatted with him for awhile. He’s lived a hard life rife with alcoholism and homelessness. He told me about how he’d been hit by a car four years ago in Santa Cruz. A hit-and-run driver hit him from behind and left him for dead. He lay in the street for twenty hours before he was taken to the hospital and suffered permanent nerve damage to one side because of it. He said that this wasn’t the first time he’s been hit and couldn’t for the life of him figure out why he was still alive. He doesn’t know why the Lord wants him to live when there are so many “good Christians” out there.

I ran into some other interesting characters today, as well.

Nothing Is Easy.

Posted by Heather On March - 27 - 2003

Jesus Quintana from The Big Lebowski, "Don't fuck with the Jesus."

Nothing is easy for me right now, and that’s an understatement. Hopefully I’ll be able to write about it in detail once my head clears a bit. Why the picture of Jesus? Well, I know it makes no sense to this post, but it made me laugh. Nobody fucks with the Jesus.

Jethro Tull – Nothing Is Easy Lyrics

Nothing is easy.
Though time gets you worrying
my friend, it’s o.k.
Just take your life easy
and stop all that hurrying,
be happy my way.
When tension starts mounting
and you’ve lost count

of the pennies you’ve missed,
just try hard and see why they’re not worrying me,
they’re last on my list.
Nothing’s easy.
Nothing is easy, you’ll find
that the squeeze won’t turn out so bad.
Your fingers may freeze, worse things happen at sea,
there’s good times to be had.
So if you’re alone and you’re down to the bone,
just give us a play.
You’ll smile in a while and discover
that I’ll get you happy my way –
nothing’s easy.

Only in San Francisco

Posted by Heather On March - 20 - 2003

(SF Chronicle) “The demonstrators, united in their cause, were varied in their tactics. A band calling itself “Pukers for Peace” vomited on the steps of the Federal Building. The “Crafty Bitches, Knitting for Peace,” knitted at Fourth and Market streets. Down the street a bit, a lone trumpeter performed a solemn rendition of “We Shall Overcome.” on his trumpet. At First and Market streets, a handful of women did yoga — earning them some sexually suggestive comments from passers-by.”

Cheney Sighting

Posted by Heather On March - 16 - 2003

Dick Cheney made an appearance on CBS’s Face The Nation today saying, “we’re getting close to the point where the president is going to have to make an important decision” regarding the situation with Iraq.

Later on today President Bush met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in the Azores for a Summit on Iraq. President Bush said, “The Iraqi regime will disarm itself or the Iraqi regime will be disarmed by force – and the regime has not disarmed itself.” Mr. Blair said, “Without a credible ultimatum … then more discussion is just more delay.”

Tomorrow is the deadline for Iraq to comply with UN Resolution 1441*. President Bush blasted France saying that they had had, “already showed their cards.” He criticized them for saying they’d veto any resolution that contained an ultimatum.

France may come around if the UN decides to issue a new resolution giving the weapons inspectors more time. “I am fully prepared to accept whatever practical working terms the inspectors will propose,” Mr Chirac said in an interview with American television. But his suggestions were rejected by US Vice-President Dick Cheney who said: “We’re approaching the point where further delay helps no-one but Saddam Hussein.”

Saddam Hussein responded by saying, “If Iraq is attacked, it will take the war anywhere in the world “wherever there is sky, land or water.”* It sounds to me like war is imminent.

NOTE TO ANYONE WHO IS ANTI-WAR: Oppose the war if you like. Tell the president what you think. Protest all you want, peacefully. Whatever you do, do not turn on the men and women in the military. They are people just like you and me who happen to be serving our country. They have differing opinions and political beliefs just like you and some of them are against a war with Iraq. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
