Spreading The Word?

I received an e-mail this morning…

Did you see in the news last week where The A C L U doesn’t want any crosses on Federal Property? Well, Duh!

ENOUGH SAID? Pass it on!

I’m not sure what recent news story the sender is referring to, but from what I can tell, this picture and reference to the “story” started circulating way back in October of 2000 with a resurgence earlier this year. This is the most recent cross-related reference I could find on the ACLU website. This seems to be the story that started it all.

Pretty interesting. I have mixed feelings about the ACLU, I think they try to fight for the little guy but at time they also bring frivolous lawsuits into the table. Just like this case…
I don’t know is hard to please everyone…..

I agree with Martie. The ACLU has a tendency to go overboard. Have to wonder at their motives…

  3. Number Six says:

I’m typically a little skeptical of anyone who goes around searching for and thinking up new reasons to be offended. When they bring up an issue like this, suddenly people have been offended for years but just hadn’t realized it until now.
While I’m sure they do address a fair number of legitimate issues, many of the lawsuits levied by the ACLU are more than a little preposterous, and, as Deb indicated, you certainly have to be a little wary of their true motives.

Yeah, looks like a lot of people are misinformed. The ACLU says this:
The ACLU is not pursuing, nor has it ever pursued, the removal of
religious symbols from personal gravestones. Personal gravestones are the
choice of the family members, not the choice of the government. The
ACLU celebrates this freedom to choose the religious symbol of your
    choice.
You can find more about the ACLU’s position on religious liberty at
    http://www.aclu.org/ReligiousLiberty/ReligiousLibertyMain.cfm
We realize that there is incorrect information about the ACLU position
going around the Internet, and thank you for the opportunity to clarify
    that falsehood.

  5. Number Six says:

I don’t think anyone ever insinuated the ACLU was seeking to have religious symbols removed from gravestones. They were merely pointing out the irony of positions taken by the organization, and the reality of those is irrefutable. The only ones spreading falsehoods would be individuals attempting to mask the real issue at hand.
