Apparently we might soon ship our criminals off to another country. The solutions our politicians come up with are just brilliant, aren’t they? I wonder how they plan to pay for a new prison. I know! We can take more money away from the schools! They don’t need it anyway.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger floated an unusual suggestion Monday on how to cut the state’s bloated prison costs with a private venture — build a private prison in Mexico.

“We pay them to build a prison down in Mexico and then we have those undocumented immigrants be down there in a prison and with their prison guards and all this,” Schwarzenegger told a gathering of the Sacramento Press Club. “It will halve the costs to build the prisons and halve the costs to run the prisons.”

Dexys Midnight Runners – Geno from Searching for the Young Soul Rebels, 1980.

Dexys Midnight Runners – Geno Lyrics

Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno!
Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno!
Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno!

Back in ’68 in a sweaty club (Oh, Geno)
Before Jimmy’s Machine and The Rocksteady Rub (Oh-oh-oh, Geno)
On a night when flowers didn’t suit my shoes
After a week of flunking and bunking school
The lowest head in the crowd that night
Just practicing steps and keeping out of the fights

Academic inspiration, you gave me none
But you were Michael the lover, the fighter that won
But now just look at me as I’m looking down at you
No, I’m not being flash, it’s what I’m built to do

That man took the stage, his towel was swinging high (Oh, Geno)
This man was my bombers, my Dexys, my high (Oh-oh-oh Geno)
The crowd they all hailed you, and chanted your name
But they never knew like we knew, me and you were the same
And now you’re all over, your song is so tame, brrrrrrr
You fed me, you bred me, I’ll remember your name

Academic inspiration, you gave me none
But you were Michael the lover, the fighter that won
But now just look at me as I’m looking down at you
No, I’m not bein’ flash, it’s what I’m built to do

Oh, Geno (Woah-oh-oh Geno)
Oh, Geno (Woah-oh-oh Geno)

Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles from Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, 1980.

Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Führer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

California Über Alles
California Über Alles
Über Alles California
Über Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can’t happen here
Big Bro’ on white horse is near
The hippies won’t come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

California Über Alles
California Über Alles
Über Alles California
Über Alles California

Now it is 1984
Knock-knock at your front door
It’s the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

David Bowie – Life On Mars?

I’ve been watching Life on Mars – the UK version. It’s such a great show and I love the music (big surprise). It’s really too bad it was canceled.

Movies I Watched Last Week

Posted by Eph On January - 18 - 2010

What can I say about The Pineapple Express? The humor is juvenile as are the situations the characters find themselves in, but it was still funny.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop – Just like Die Hard! But with a fat guy.

I hadn’t seen Foul Play in at least two decades (ouch). Funny of course, and I love the footage of San Francisco.

The Hunger features David Bowie as a dying vampire. It was kinda slow paced, or maybe I was just tired. I only lasted 42 minutes. My favorite part was the Bauhaus song at the beginning.

Was Race to Witch Mountain supposed to be a sequel? I’m not sure if I could smell what The Rock was cookin’. Typical Hollywood fare, but watchable.

Modern Marvels – The Manhattan Project: Cool.

Three words: Glowing blue schlong. I think I might have enjoyed The Watchmen more if I’d read the graphic novels.

The surfers are amazing in The Billabong Odyssey (of course). We weren’t in the mood for the fully documentary experience, so we skipped to the actual surfing bits.

Inglourious Basterds is classic Quentin Tarantino. A lot of ultraviolence, but with a good story (ESSENTIAL). I enjoyed it!

It Happened One Night – watching old movies on a rainy day is nice. :)
